  • I can't believe that the JCF don't have

a central database to check criminals if they are wanted in other divisions.

I wonder if them want mi and mi brethren them set up something fi dem?

In today's day if a police want to check out a name or fingerprint them just have to type in a name, check DNA or fingerprints.

It easier to setup up the database than to spend it on guns and car.

mi tell unnu from long time dat wi justice system sucks. yes, police is part of that justice system. we spend money on all sorts of stuff but can't half fix our justice system. such a simple database would go long way in checking up on criminals and bringing them to justice. but we just can't see it as important, much less necessary.

              This System

The government of Jamaica is to spend almost a million US dollars to give police improved technology that will help them solve crimes using fingerprint identification.

Minister of National Security, Senator Dwight Nelson, yesterday signed a contract with Sagem SA of France, for a US$990,000 upgrade of the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Automated Palm and Fingerprint Identification System (APFIS).

The APFIS was put into operation in October 2006, and Nelson said the upgrade "will greatly improve the capability of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) to use fingerprint identification technology in solving crimes in Jamaica".

He added that the most important feature of the upgraded APFIS would be a much larger fingerprint database for the JCF. The system is also expected to make it easier to provide police records on individuals.

Additional equipment is also to be acquired and deployed strategically within the JCF, the Department of Correctional Services and at the Firearm Licensing Authority.

"There is no doubt that there will be cost benefits associated with this upgrade. There might even exist the possibility for the extension of the capabilities of this system in other areas presently under consideration," the National Security Minister added.

Nelson said that as part of the upgrading of the Jamaica Constabulary Force's (JCF) fingerprint identification system, his ministry was looking at maintaining separate databases for the fingerprints of criminals and non-criminals.

He pointed out that, as it stands, storing the fingerprint of someone who has not committed an offence could raise legal questions.

"The person could challenge your retaining his or her fingerprint and he or she has not committed an offence, and the law does not prescribe for your retaining the fingerprint of someone who has not committed an offence," he explained.

The government is therefore looking to establish a legal framework under which such fingerprints could be retained.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Les Green, noted that there are currently almost 300,000 fingerprints on the system and that there are over 400 cases linked to some of these fingerprints.

Camedy show. Dudus imported 500 gunmen into Tivoli and the security forces caught 8? Dudus slipped out of TG when the security forces had it surrounded and a surveillance plane flying over? Did they swab all 500 of the detainees hands? If so then the police are damn liars bout 500 man brought in to defend Tivoli

Furthermore an article this morning said hundreds of the detainees didn't have a Tivoli address. Well, what were they doing in Tivoli then? Why were they released after claiming that gunmen were imported to protect the boss?

Maybe the system is all in French and the policemen can't understand a word of it?

They probably had trouble with the database in French and just couldn't bother keeping them......

Did the police say 500 men were brought in to defend Tivoli...or is a liar or liars lying by inferring that the police said that?
