Former Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mark Shields, has labeled the current altercation between the security forces and criminals in West Kingston as a war.
“When you have a group of highly armed men as we have seen, who have gone out and recently attacked innocent people, police stations and innocent police officers, that’s declaring war on the State. This is a war situation; this has nothing to do with policing at all.
“At the moment, it’s a military operation to retake Tivoli and parts of West Kingston that are totally out of control … people are being ruled by the gun that’s the only way that the security forces can take the streets back,” said Shields.
According to him, the current operation in West Kingston should be the first step in ridding the nation of criminals.
“We're on the road to Baghdad, lets continue, lets not retreat back to Kuwait, we have go all the way and get total control down and move from Tivoli into other areas and give people the confidence that the can go about their business without being ruled by dons,” Shields said.
