Violence will not be tolerated – PM

PRIME Minister Bruce Golding in his national address minutes ago described the violence that has consumed downtown violence today as 'intolerable' and the state of emergency as the necessary step to allow security forces the powers to restore normality.

The prime minister issued the state of emergency earlier today following orchestrated attacks by gunmen on police who were trying to clear roadblocks.

"What is taking place is a calculated assault on the authority of the State that cannot be tolerated, and will not be allowed to continue," he said.
Four police stations have been attacked and two members of the security forces reported injured. One civilian has also been killed.

Under their new powers the security forces will be able to restrict freedom of movement, search premises and detain suspect persons without warrant.

"The security forces will be moving swiftly to bring the current situation under control. Criminal elements bent on violence and mayhem will be detained, and processed. The criminal element who have placed the society under siege will not be allowed to triumph," he said.

"The security forces have been instructed to observe and respect the rights of citizens to go about their lawful business. The city is not being shut down. People are assured that they are free to move about and go to work as usual. Schools will be in full session on Tuesday."

He acknowledged that there will be inconvenience – likely stopping and searching – as security forces carry out their work.

"But let us make no mistake. The threats that have emerged to the safety and security of our people will be repelled with strong and decisive action."
The state of emergency will remain in effect for a period of one month unless the security forces advise that it should be revoked or extended by Parliament. The state of emergency is limited to the parishes of Kingston and St Andrew and came into effect at 6.00 pm.

"This will be a turning point for us as a nation to confront the powers of evil that have penalized the society and earned us the unenviable label as one of the murder capitals of the world. We must confront this criminal element with determination and unqualified resolve," he said.

He concluded by once again appealing to law-abiding citizens to remain calm and support security forces.

THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

ah no dat: when him say "criminal elements" who is he talking about? The elements that he was trying to lobby the whitehouse about? This man really take the Jakan people for idiots. Bruce the criminal elements have rights as citizens too. don't forget what you said.

It's really disappointing and sad for JA.

That's the problem right there: we like to sit back and drink whilst rome burns. Only education can free the people and that's hard to come by in a slavery society.

Not to worry I didn't miss the sarcasm.

The problem here isn't Dudus as after he is gone the world will have seen the abject state of the young black male in Jamaica and the questions will be asked and people exposed.

the real issue here is the prophecy as this is where it all starts from as it was written.

pay attention to what Nigeria and Trinidad youths do after seeing these videos. Jamaica is the flash point and the problem here is that to really solve this problem the youths will have to be uplifted and our true history taught along with Garvey words etc.

you see this is what it takes to pull the wool off the eyes of the world and now the reporters the world over will including Al Jazeera will know that a prophet of God resides among them.

                now when they read
www.myspace.com/cdfreakmusic blogs they will realize that this was foretold by a man of God a long time ago and after reading the letters to Mr Seaga and Prophet Phin they will finally understand that this is the part of the old testament where Babylon invades Jerusalem and then they will put it all together.

Again let me say it loud and clear only the music(god's word set to music) can save us. A dat it gone to and that is why God put the players of instrument to the side.

Its prophecy and only the words of our ancestor and god can save us and that word will have to be put to music

                so the thing set up
                it was already written
who have ears to ear let them hear

                the prophet has spoken
