SUPREME Court Justice Roy Jones has reserved judgement on applications from Opposition leader Portia Simpson Miller and president of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica Joseph Matalon that they be removed as defendants in a motion filed by Justice Minister and Attorney General Dorothy Lightbourne.
Lightbourne is seeking a declaration as to the powers of the minister of justice under the Extradition Act.
Simpson Miller and Matalon were named as defendants after they questioned the Government's unwillingness to sign the extradition order.
Tivoli Gardens strongman, Christopher 'Dudus' Coke has also been named as a defendant.
No attorney for Coke was present at this morning's hearing, which was held inside Justice Jones chambers.
No date was set for a ruling by Justice Jones.
The United States government has requested the extradition of Coke to face allegations of drug and gun running. Lightbourne has stubbornly refused to sign the authority to proceed raising concerns from various sectors of society.
