The Media Association of Jamaica (MAJ) is gearing up for a battle with the government over planned changes to the format of presenting broadcasts from the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) on radio and television.
The Bruce Golding administration has decided to shift from the process of using the time allotted for government broadcasts in one block to one where shorter JIS news and features are aired as much as 13 times each day.
However that decision has not gone down well with the MAJ.
Head of the MAJ Gary Allen is demanding changes to the plan.
Mr. Allen, who also heads the RJR Communications Group, is urging the government to embark on a path of dialogue before it implements a regime which he says is not in place in any media house in the Caribbean or the British Commonwealth.
Head of the Media Association of Jamaica, Gary Allen speaking at a function to mark World Press Freedom day which is being celebrated today under the theme “The Right to Know”.
