Of course it is true, and the truth is sometimes difficult to swallow when outsiders show our dirty laundry to the world.

Well when organizations like JFJ expose the police abuse ppl like Karl and Xuberant attack them. Now since we want to play blind, let others open our eyes for us.

Lazie, it makes no sense to express such deep concern re the crime situation in your beloved country while condoning the slackness coming from the Prime Minister on a very serious matter. The two just don't add up! It is all connected. Bruce has an oppty to show the world he is serious about crime, but instead, he will pull out all the stops to defend criminality, thuggery and garrisons. You need to stop supporting him on this or these posts you make about crime in Jamaica, soaked with your crocodile tears, are becoming quite tiresome and hypocritical.

BSI dragging feet in Kentucky Kid case, says JFJ

BY KIMMO MATTHEWS Observer staff reporter matthewsk@jamaicaobserver.com
                  Thursday, April 29, 2010

HUMAN rights lobby group Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) says the Bureau of Special Investigations is dragging its feet when it comes to providing an update on the investigation surrounding the controversial shooting death of entertainer Robert ‘Kentucky Kid’ Hill by the police.
“It is taking quite a long time for the investigation to be carried out and we are demanding answers,” said JFJ head Dr Carolyn Gomes.
Gomes raised the concern following the release of a documentary about the fatal shooting yesterday on the international Al Jazeera network.
Police claim that Hill was killed in a shootout at his home in December last year. Human rights groups and family members have since dismissed the reports, saying that Hill was murdered. Hill had been at odds with the police since his vehicle was involved in an accident with a police service vehicle in July 2009. After the accident, Hill claimed he was beaten by the police, and had fingered them as the would be perpetrators in the event of his death.
The incident has since gained world-wide media attention, the latest being the production of the Al Jazeera documentary where journalist Simon Ostrovsky, in a 30-minute film titled Land of Music and Murder, looks at the number of reported controversial police shootings in the country.

No doubt things like these occur. BUDs in uniform!

Disarm the society. It would be a little bit difficult for the police to justify each shooting if the society was disarmed.

Careful recount of exactly the sequence of events that led to the police discharging weapons would be the order of the day.

It is really simple - The police in a society where the ordinary citizen has no reason to have a gun would lead to a different interactions - citizen/police...police/citizen.

The police would always think of resolutions of conflicts outside of gun-play as first option.

...and when the matter of use of a gun comes to mind the cop would then think first on what options outside of deadly force is an option...

...only as last resort would...under those circumstances...the cop would think that man...or woman...is a BUD!

                      DISARM!

Put strict confines on 'cops use of guns'.
The cops step outside of the determined parameters within which his/her gun was discharged? Leave! Investigation! Courts! Jail time! ...or worse!

                      Private citizen with gun?
                      Has made self BUD!
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
