DPP to indicate next move in Kern Spencer trial
Tuesday, 20 April 2010
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Paula Llewellyn is to indicate her next move Tuesday when the trial of former Junior Minister for Energy, Kern Spencer resumes in the Half-Way-Tree Criminal Court.
On Friday, Miss Llewellyn was ordered by Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey to disclose information on the discussions she had with Rodney Chin, a former accused in the Cuban Lightbulb affair.
Magistrate Pusey dismissed an application by the attorneys for Mr. Spencer for the case against him to be thrown out.
However in a major ruling the magistrate ordered the DPP to put in writing the substance of her September 2008 meeting which led to Mr. Chin becoming the star witness in the case.
The Magistrate said this should be disclosed to the defence team.
The ruling could change the landscape of the case, as Miss Llewellyn could be called as a witness.
If this happens the DPP would be forced to withdraw from prosecuting the case.
