The Guild of Students of the UWI will this afternoon intensify its protest against the cut in subvention for tertiary education with a march to Gordon House.
The education minister has announced that 8 per cent has been cut from the overall subvention allocation to tertiary institutions this year.
As a result, for the next school year tuition fees will increase at tertiary institutions.
The UWI will be the worst affected because in real terms, its subvention has been most significantly reduced.
Already students have been warned to brace for at least a 20 per cent increase in school fees come September.
The president of the UWI Guild of Students, Vishwanauth Tolan, says the group will also present a list of alternatives to the cutting of the subvention.
