  • Beenie says US accused him

Beenie Man has declared that he was wrongfully accused by US authorities who claim he’s involved in drugs and gangs hence his visa being revoked.
In an interview, the king of the dancehallalsoexpressed that not being able to travel to the United States will have a negative impact on dancehall music:

Players in the entertainment industry, fans and music lovers were baffled after news surfaced that the US embassy has revoked Bounty Killa, Beenie Man, Mavado, Aidonia and Ricky Trooper’s visa.
These top dancehall entertainers among many others rely heavily on the international market for a large percentage of their income.

Dem tek way mi visa but mi still have mi life

        — says Beenie Man in new song
        Wednesday, April 07, 2010

King of the Dancehall, Beenie Man, without missing a beat, has launched a lyrical attack on the United States Embassy, as he grapples with the reality of the recent revocation of both his US work permit and his visitor's visa.

"Dem tek weh mi visa but mi still have mi life," goes the chorus of the song in which Beenie Man mentions that he isn't "frighten fi foreign" and even gives props to Gully God Mavado, by mentioning his name and a line from that deejay's current hit, Starlight.

Interestingly, Beenie Man also mentions that he has his girl "in foreign" and states that "all mi haffi do now is divorce mi wife".

In the song, which has been receiving power play on one particular radio station, but which has not yet been officially released Beenie ponders the reason why his visa was cancelled and seeks to reassure himself, and his fans, that his visa will soon be returned, as he intends to "pressure" the case.

It was reported last week that top dancehall deejays Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Mavado, Aidonia, along with veteran selector, Ricky Trooper, had their visas revoked by the US Embassy.

While this line about still having his life is absolutely correct and cannot be disputed, what Beenie Man neglected to include is the fact that his “life” will now reflect a vastly diminished standard of living. I’m not sure what marketable skills he has should his visa -- which will affect not only trips to the USA -- not be returned.

It’s really unfortunate how things have turned out, especially for him. Hopefully, this visa cancellation for Beenie Man will be merely a temporary act on the part of the authorities.

People may not know but it is not such an irregular thing.

Sizzla and Vibez Kartel currently has no visa, Ninjaman never had a visa for a long time, Junior Reid also. There are many entertainers who had their visa or work permit cancelled from time to time.
