  • PCJ moves closer to waste-to-energy project

The government's much talked about project to convert waste to energy now seems closer to reality.
Indications from the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ) are that it will start implementing the project to convert garbage into energy.
It is being done in collaboration with the National Solid Waste Management Authority.

The project is expected to start this month with a targeted completion in July 2013.

Converting waste to energy is part of the government's plans to reduce Jamaica's dependence on imported oil.
Other measures to help reduce Jamaica's dependence on imported oil involve a slew of renewable energy projects which are aimed at making the country meet 20% of its own energy needs by 2030.
