<P class=StoryText align=justify>HOMICIDE detectives from the St Andrew Central Police Division were yesterday probing the gruesome murder of a man whose partially decomposed body was found in a room at an upscale apartment that was reportedly owned by late former ambassador for trade, Peter King.
The dead man has been identified as Wayne Pinnock, who resided at Waterloo Avenue in Kingston.<P class=StoryText align=justify>The police believe Pinnock, whose naked body was discovered in a bedroom with eight stab wounds and his throat cut, was killed by his male lover.<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=5 width=330 align=center border=0><TBODY><TR><TD></TD></TR><TR><TD><SPAN class=Description>A section of the house at Waterloo Avenue in Kingston, where a man identified as Wayne Pinnock was found dead. </SPAN></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><P class=StoryText align=justify>Police said yesterday that they believe Pinnock was killed last Thursday.
According to the police, officers were summoned to the area on Thursday after they were called by residents who said that they had heard cries of 'help' and 'murder' coming from the direction of Pinnock's home. However, the police said they did not find the body on Thursday because they were not sure where to look.<P class=StoryText align=justify>A member of the island's growing gay community, who was yesterday questioned by cops at the murder scene, admitted knowing Pinnock and said the dead man was a fellow homosexual.<P class=StoryText align=justify>"Yes Wayne was gay. He left his boyfriend but the man friend him back up and killed him. What a wicked boy!" the young man said.
Despite claims by local and international gay rights groups that homosexuals are targeted and killed in Jamaica, police statistics have shown that most murders involving gay men are carried out by other gay men.<P class=StoryText align=justify>"The signs are usually there as they usually stab their victims a number of times or kill them in a gruesome fashion," a cop at the crime scene said yesterday.
Dwight Hayden, who was sentenced to life earlier this year for the murder of gay rights activist, Brian Williamson, admitted to police that he and Williamson were lovers and did not deny his part in Williamson's death.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Williamson was stabbed and chopped all over his body at his home at Haughton Avenue in St Andrew in June 2004. Police say Williamson's home was a regular hotbed of homosexual activity.
Two years before Williamson's demise, the body of self-proclaimed psychic and television show host, Safa Santura, was found badly bruised and slashed at Cavaliers in St Andrew. Police say he was also murdered by his jealous lover who was also sentenced to life in prison.<P class=StoryText align=justify>walkerk@jamaicaobserver.com
