The two female jurors who were held in November last year accepting money to free a man accused of murder, have been freed on the charge of contempt of court.
Twenty- three year- old Verona Samuels and 45-year-old Natalie Sill, both of Clarendon addresses, appeared before the Clarendon Circuit Court yesterday.
When the matter was called up the Crown said it had no evidence and as such it could not proceed with the matter.
It was then that Justice Horace Marsh dismissed the case.
In February, the women were sentenced to 18 months at hard labour after pleading guilty to the charge of perverting the course of justice in the Clarendon Resident Magistrate’s court.
Its reported that they approached the mother of the accused man and demanded $100,000 to return a not guilty verdict.
The woman said she could only afford to pay them $20,000 but the jurors said the least they would take was $50,000.
The woman made a report to court officials and the police were notified.
The police set up a sting operation and on November 16 the women were held in a bathroom at a business establishment in May Pen collecting marked money from the mother of the accused.
