Tuesday start of wage negotiations between the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) and the Ministry of Finance got off to a rocky start.
It is reported that the JTA did not receive a wage offer from the government team when the parties for the first round of talk.
And according to Michael Stewart, JTA President, the Association has given the Finance Ministry one week to place a proposal on the table.
"If we don't hear something more substantial next week, then we'll be taking it to our members and I know it will not go down well with them. The government team came to the meeting not prepared at all when they had the claim from January 27," he said.
The JTA is pushing to get a salary increase for its members despite the public sector wage freeze.
