Wesley Snipes, the Hollywood action star, was taken into custody this morning and will appear before a federal judge to answer charges of tax fraud and conspiracy later today.
Wearing his signature black sunglasses, a black 2-piece suit and a blue shirt, Snipes walked through the back entrance of the courthouse at 9:30 a.m., escorted by federal agents and a prosecutor.
Court officials confirmed Snipes will have an initial appearance and arraignment in front of Magistrate Gary Jones at 10:30 a.m. today.
Snipes' surrender to authorities ends nearly 2 months of negotiations between the U.S. Attorney's Office in Tampa and his attorneys.
Most recently, he was filming his latest movie Gallowwalker in Namibia and was detained at Orlando International Airport after arriving from an overseas flight.
Snipes, an Jones High School graduate and former Isleworth resident, was indicted before a federal grand jury in Tampa on October 17 on charges of conspiracy to defraud the IRS and submitting false estimated-tax payments worth $14 million. His associates, tax preparer Douglas Rosile and tax-shelter promoter Eddie Ray Kahn, were also charged.
