No major civil service job cuts this year

State Minister in the Finance Ministry, Senator Arthur Williams is seeking to assure that there should be no major public sector job cuts this year.
His comments come even as the Public sector
Transformation Unit continues its consultations with stakeholders to determine how to reduce the country’s wage bill and make the civil service more efficient.
Senator Williams said while the sector will be minimized he does not expect many job losses.
Senator Williams says a system will be implemented to ensure that public sector workers who are displaced will be able to find other jobs in the civil service.
However, he admits that such lateral movements will not significantly reduce the countries wage bill.
However, he said the wage bill’s percentage of the Gross Domestic Product should be reduced thus achieving one of the government’s objectives.
