As he prepares to leave the BVI after serving as head of Prosecution for the past ten years, Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Terrence Williams sat down with BVI Platinum News to reflect on his years in office and where he would like to see the office in years to come.
Williams, who will celebrate his 43rd birthday later this month, will be leaving the Territory on Christmas Eve.
Before getting into details regarding his departure, the DPP spoke about the first time he came to the BVI and the memories he will take away.
According to Williams, it was an honour to serve as the first office holder and later on becoming the first person that holds the constitutional powers. He said upon arrival in the BVI, he was often told about the difficulty in obtaining convictions locally.
"My view is that sometimes it´s an excuse for people who don´t prepare cases properly. My view is in preparing a case, don´t think whether you have convinced yourself but what you need to do to convince other people, which an advocate is suppose to do. Think about everything that can happen or questions that will be asked by someone and find an answer for it. You win or lose cases not in the court room, but in your office preparing," Williams stated.
He recalled a problem with administrative staffing, but assured that it will be addressed since they have now moved into a new office. The DPP´s office is now located at TTT Building adjacent to the office of the House of Assembly.
