  • Lynn killers found guilty

    Paul Henry, Observer staff reporter
    Friday, December 18, 2009

THE two men charged with the murder of Mandeville couple Richard and Julia Lyn were today convicted in the Home Circuit Court, downtown Kingston.

Convicts Lennox Campbell and Calvin Powell are to be sentenced on January 12.
The Lyn's children welcomed the verdict saying that justice has been done.
Swaby and Powell have been on trial since October 5 for the December 2006 murders. The Lyns' bodies were found in a landfill on December 29.
"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)

They should be hanged and the hangings shown on pay per view TV. Better yet, hang them at half time of the Jamaica vs. Canada match. A packed National Stadium would be guaranteed.

Like the Old-West days, let them watch the builders build the gallows and have the hangman go into their cell(s) to measure necksize for the noose. Let them sweat it out for about 3 days, then hang the bastards!

Now, watch their damn lawyers take the matter straight up to the Privy Council and dash our hopes! The Privy Council does not intend to uphold any death sentence verdict that ever reaches that London court.

Once again (as I have alluded in the past), our best bet right now is probably the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ). But until the government of Jamaica makes the necessary changes to our Constitution, doing away with the British Privy Council is not likely to happen. Of course, I will feel a bit better about the CCJ as our final court once the following two questions can be satisfactorily answered in my mind:

          1. Why, despite the fact that the CCJ was formally established several years ago, only two Caribbean countries to date (Guyana and Barbados) have made the necessary constitutional amendments to make that court their final court of appeal?

          2. Why is it that Trinidad, which lobbied so hard and so successfully (the Basdeo Panday administration) during the early years of this decade to have the court seated in Port of Spain, not yet adopted the CCJ as its highest court?!
