Three more JCF members retired in the public interest
    JamaicaObserver.com
    Wednesday, December 02, 2009
THREE more members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) have been retired in the public interest over allegations of unprofessional conduct at Montego Bay's Donald Sangster Airport while attached to the Narcotics Division.
They are woman corporal Joy Street; woman corporal Norma Porter and constable Oral Hylton. Their retiring in the Public Interest follows the approval of the Governor General, acting on the advice of the Privy Council.
The Governor General has also directed that the retiring benefits of the three police officers be reduced by 75 per cent.
Ten members of the JCF were similarly retired earlier this year over their alleged association with a million-dollar lottery scandal. In that case, police found they had insufficient evidence to pursue the matter further in court.
Solidarity is not a matter of well wishing, but is sharing the very same fate whether in victory or in death.

Why 'retire' them. Shouldn't they be fired?

that is a tough sell based on the rules of the public service commission or civil service commission...which ever.

pretty close it though...might have something to do with ears of service too. if they were involved in criminal activity then they should be arrested and tried but the report stopped short...not sure why. maybe they copped a plea?
