Beautiful Jazz Selections!

I can’t recall hearing of Jackie Ryan before, but what she has done here is a marvelous interpretation of these Latin songs. Ms. Ryan has a beautiful, flawless voice, and the critical comparisons with other jazz stylists like Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald and the others are, in my opinion, well deserved (in addition to showing how highly she is regarded by some jazz critics). I share this positive view of her vocal abilities.
It’s easy to see why this CD was the “Number One CD Nationwide for Seven Weeks.”
The second CD, “Beautiful Love” by Shirley Horne and Toots Thielemans, was also a lovely selection, and perfect for a Sunday afternoon! Now, I know both as I grew up listening to the recordings of thesetwo jazz greats. In fact, when I was a teen I used to learn stuff by the outstanding jazz harmonica player Toots Thielemans, in particular his classic composition “Bluesing.”
Thanks for another beautiful Sunday selection! (The selections last week were also enjoyable.)
