Wednesday, 25 November 2009 The Police in the St. Catherine North Division have gone on high alert following the killing of former Tawes Pen strongman 53-year-old Lenford Hamilton otherwise called "Shatta John".
Hamilton was killed on Tuesday afternoon after he went to visit his son in an area known as Buck Town near Ensom City.
He was reportedly standing on the road when gunmen approached him and shot him several times.
He was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A police source told RJR News that Hamilton's killing is suspected to have been carried out by members of the Clansman Gang.
Hamilton was released from prison last month after serving more than 20 years for murder.
It is reported that before his incarceration he was involved in a bitter feud with members of the gang.
While he was in prison his family, including his mother, were driven out of Tawes Pen by criminals.
Two of his brothers and a nephew were also shot and killed while he was locked up.
Since his release, Hamilton has reportedly laying low and was employed as a groom at the nearby Caymanas Park.
He was a former member of the Tawes Pen Gang which operated in the area before he went to prison.
The police are now on high alert in sections of the division to prevent an upsurge in violence.
