Pair involved in anti-cop rap video charged with making threats

NEW BEDFORD — Two men will be arraigned today on charges of threatening a Massachusetts State Police trooper and a probation officer in a profanity-laced rap video posted on the Internet.
Police say Matthew Rufino, 24, of New Bedford, and Jason Foley, 28, of Fairhaven, are members of “508 Productions,” which has posted at least a half-dozen rap videos on MySpace and YouTube containing graphic images of gun violence, threats to kill anyone who crosses them, as well as derogatory, profane statements about police.
Police said Rufino and Foley produced a video — titled “Watch 4 Me Cops Going to See” — in which they call out by name a state police trooper and a probation officer at New Bedford District Court. An image of a woman being held up at gunpoint is displayed after the probation officer’s name is said.
The video is also laced with several images of firearms and gunshot sounds in the background music. The video shows images of New Bedford police stations and cruisers, and in some verses warn police of consequences of pulling over or arresting them.
“You better bring the whole U.S. Army, and the (expletive) Marines to take me in,” the video says.
Police arrested Rufino and Foley around 12:15 a.m. Saturday. They are charged with two counts each of making threats to commit a crime; threats to use a firearm; and intimidation of a witness.
There are other individuals in the video, but police have not announced any other arrests.
Rufino has a pending assault and battery case in New Bedford District Court. Foley does not have a prior criminal record.
State Police have seized forensic evidence, and the investigation is ongoing in conjunction with the office of Bristol District Attorney C. Samuel Sutter.
