Historian, I am thinking it is over due for the Alpha Movie to be made, centered around Sister Ignatious and teh Top Musican that she nurtued. There are quite a few Musicians and music industry people to make it work.

Let me share this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7HNP...eature=related

TDowl: You’ve made another excellent YouTube post!

Before I comment on Alpha and the invaluable, insufficiently recognized contributions of the Sisters of Mercy to the creative development of poor but talented Jamaican youth, let me say something else here. I pray that the day will come when a comprehensive work is done on the contributions of the Caucasian and Chinese races to the social development of Jamaica!

There is absolutely no question that many Whites and Chinese have played major and positives role in social life in Jamaica. Father Richard Holung and Dr. Carolyn Gomes immediately come to mind, and there are many more who can stand alongside these “outstanding Jamaicans” in more ways than one! Sister Mary Ignatius, the most well known of the nuns who’ve worked at Alpha Boys School since the nineteenth century, belongs right up there with the great contributors to Jamaica!

So, as far as your comment is concerned, TDowl, I’m sure you already guessed that I agree with you 100 percent! Assasin and I shared the view, in posts earlier this year on this forum, that what Jamaica needs is greater emphasis on music education. This is what Alpha has always provided, thanks to the Sisters of Mercy nuns. Certainly Alpha has made a much obviously greater impact on Jamaica’s music development than the much vaunted Jamaica School of Music!

I enjoyed the YouTube video, and that rendition of the Skatalites’ “Eastern Standard Time” at the end of the video is a classic! Listen to it again and pay attention to that rock guitar-influenced player (I have no idea who he is). His guitar is mixed below the horns, but his creative melodies are clear.

Another thing I liked about this short documentary is the fact that prominent, relevant people such as drummer Sparow Martin, saxophonist “Deadly” Headley Bennett (I always enjoyed Headley Bennett’s solo work on stuff like those Delroy Wilson rock steady recordings), guitarist Owen Gray, and saxophonist Tony Greene were interviewed. Wonderful documentary, albeit too short! I also like, in particular, Winston Francis’ comments.

    Excellent post, TDowl !
