Security forces stage massive operation across Kingston
Saturday, October 24, 2009
Police from all divisions in the Kingston Metropolitan Region, as well as Jamaica Defence Force soldiers, increased their presence across the Corporate Area last night in what they described as "a massive operation" aimed at improving security in the capital.
"The operation will run throughout the weekend," said Karl Angell, the police force's director of communication. "It involves vehicle spot checks, cordon-and-searches. a real massive operation which we hope will ease the fear of crime."
Last night, teams of police and soldiers were seen at normally busy intersections and along heavily travelled routes, among them the Red Hills Road and Perkins Boulevard intersection, the Six Miles and Mandela Highway merger point, and on the Florizel Glasspole Highway from the Jamaica Flour Mills to the Harbour View roundabout.
