Government Member of Parliament (MP) Joseph Hibbert was in breach of government regulations and Ministry of Transport and Works staff orders when he accepted payments from bridge-building firm Mabey and Johnson, Contractor General Greg Christie has said in his special report to Parliament.
The report has recommended that Hibbert be charged for corruption, perjury and for breaching the Contractor General's Act. Christie said Hibbert "was never authorised" to receive money from Mabey and Johnson.

    PM brushes aside tarnished-reputation claim

    Published: Wednesday | October 14, 2009

    Edmond Campbell, Senior Staff Reporter

    ( L - R ) Phillips, Golding
PRIME MINISTER Bruce Golding has brushed aside a suggestion that Jamaica's reputation in the international community could be sullied as a result of the Mabey and Johnson bribery scandal, which had implicated Joseph Hibbert, a former technical officer in the Transport and Works Ministry. Dr Peter Phillips, a senior Opposition parliamentarian, during the prime minister's question time in Gordon House yesterday, urged the Golding administration to move decisively to clear the country's name.

Eagerly awaiting 'the rest of the story'...

"I am hoping that as part of their mitigation, Mabey and Johnson will be kind enough to disclose for the benefit of the Jamaican people, who are the Jamaican officials who received £1.5 million from them and also who are the holders of the accounts into which the money was lodged," said Ernest Smith, one of Mr. Hibbert's attorneys.

Mr. Smith recently wrote to Mabey and Johnson requesting that it release information regarding the alleged payment of bribes."

Wheh di oddah 1.4 Million pounds gone ??
