  • A few singer the Reggae fan might or might not rememeber

Owen Grey. Did the original “Don’t Turn Around” good singer still need more on him.

Doreen Shaffer ‘Sugar Sugar” The Ska queen who did a few reggae tracks

Al Campbell Popular dancehall tracks but didn’t get the radio play he deserve (Not Ali Campbell)

Phillip Frazier Same as Al Campbell

Cornell Campbell recorded a lot good songs that lasted the time of day

Pad Anthony Another singer who’s career was in the dancehall and specials
(Many sound system shot to the top of the line playing Al Campbell, Phillip Frazer, Pad Anthony and Cornell Campbell as their headliners for their djs)

Glen Ricketts(Glen Ricks) Sang as Glen Ricketts, then changed his name.
Sammy Dread One of the original sound system singer who didn’t do a lot of recording but was on sounds such as Black Harmony(Socialist Roots)

Icho Candy Jack Ruby found this singer but he migrated before his career got going after he failed to return from a Jack Ruby tour along with a promising DJ Bobby Culture
Sugar Minnott Many people may know Bugar Singjay but check out some of his classic reggae singing tunes

Triston Palmer Never recorded too much(didn’t know why) but songs like “Entertainment is form of Enjoyment” showed he could have been bigger

Junior Byles mental illness got the better of Byles

Barry Biggs Very good singer who at one stage joined the Tamlins. He also had a sister who was a singer. Check out “Wide Awake in a dream

David Isaacs Never recorded for very long but check out his song “Just like a Sea”

Roland Burrell worked with Sly and Robbie to give “Johnny Dollar” and “Stormy Night

Sharon Cardogan One of the female singer who gave it up early
Sheila Hylton She was a singing professional who did “The Bed is too Big” and a few other tracks

Barry Brown can be considered a wasted talent but check out his ‘Far East’

Lorna Bennett at one stage was the queen of Jamaican music ‘Breakfast in Bed”

Kiddus I One of the talents that could have made it big. Has some good recording

Ras Carby More of a writer than a singer but had to mention

Willi Williams. Was a one hit wonder but his song “Amagedeon” will last the test of time in any dancehall or cultural forum.

David Isaacs spent much of his recording time with the Itals (one of my favorite group).

I had a Triston Palmer LP in college called Triston Plamer Show Case.

Yammy Bolo(sp) is missing from the list.

interesting names.. Tritan P did a lot of tunes most notable entertainment and joke smoker.. Another in his line is Linval Thompson, awesome foundation singer with a bag of tunes but not blessed with radio play. Mercy, baby father.. ready fi dem some of the tougher tunes.. Willi willams was living in Toronto and was still performing but nothing good from him.. Glen Ricks can sing but nothing really stand out from him. Gibbon is another talented one who really did not do enough after the first buss.

I remember Breakfast In Bed. She taught at STETHS when I was a student there. Good looking girl too.

mi love her tune 'breakfast in bed'... she also did have a few others back then... heard her tune wid spragga and in my opinion, it was weak... i think she needs to record more and try to get another hit... the music biz is unkind to grown ups trying to re-establish a career...

she will need to sing for a mature audience... that spragga combo was a waste...

what happen to scion.. he did a lot of tune for Jah Liife and then nothing.. kinda seen as a new york artist. Talking about Ny artist how did we forget Shinehead.. and Trevor Sparks.. wicked singers. A youth who came up and died too soon Alton Black. Not sure if any here familar with Micky Simpson bad singer who also dropped out early. Out of England you have some good artist .. Don Campbell, Bitty Mclean, Debroarh Glasglow, From Canada there are three that I think most dont know.. Noel Ellis (alton son) bad singer. Chester Miller and obviously Leroy Gibbons.... no list can be without Barrington levy but I want to talk about some underground studio youth who did not buss but did well in dubs and specials. Robert lee, Uton Green, Trevor levy, Patrick Andy.. Thriller not Triller U.. Steve Knight.. and the list goes on.

When you mention Icho Candy it bring back memories of some Jack Ruby sound system tapes. I did like Bobby Culture style of DJ-ing too.

You definitely a long-time dancehall fan Sass. From the early days before much radio play when you haffe go dancehall or listen to the tapes to hear the big time DJs do dem thing.

Up until a few years ago Scion was living in Atlanta and still recording. Have not seen him in about 3 years, don't know if he is still here. Wicked lists by the way. I would add Lloyd Brown to that UK list. Check his "Against The Grain " cd. Good stuff
