Hi-Lo Food Stores started in Jamaica on April 29, 1954, as the first supermarket originally owned and operated by the Neal and Massey Group.
A household name from its inception, the success of the Cross Roads location signalled that a similar store set-up was required in other locations. Soon came the opening of the Tropical Plaza, Liguanea Plaza, Manor Park and Mandeville stores.
Look out next Sunday for The Gleaner's special supplement celebrating Hi-Lo's 25th year in operation.
