GOV'T, BOUYGUES TO MEET ON RENAMING OF HIGHWAY IN BOLT'S HONOUR

GOVERNMENT is to meet with officials of French construction company Bouygues Travaux Publics, to decide on which leg of the Highway 2000 is to be renamed in honour of sprint sensation Usain Bolt.

Highway 2000, a 230-kilometre tolled expressway links Kingston, Jamaica's capital, with Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, passing through St Catherine, Manchester, St Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Hanover, and St Ann.

I don't buy this nonsense that the govt has to get the permission of the owner, Bouygues, to rename the highway. What does the name have to do with their ownership? Did they select the name Highway 2000?!?

Anyway, it's a pity the highway goes no where near Usain's parish. It would have been better to rename the stretch of the North Coast Highway, between Discovery Bay and Falmouth, in his honour. That stretch also takes care of the Trelawny Stadium just in case they need to name more things after him.
