The American firm which faced criticisms over the quality of the fertiliser it sold to the Government late last year is setting up a branch in Jamaica.
Diamond R Fertiliser has shipped its first container of fertiliser to Jamaica despite lingering concerns from the Opposition Peoples National Party (PNP) about the quality of the product.
However the company’s managing director, Alex Kaminsky has expressed confidence in the product.
He says the company will continue to be engaged with local independent testing bodies and is more than willing to make the results public.
The company has been forced to defend the quality of its product since early this year, when Opposition Spokesman on Agriculture Roger Clarke claimed that it contained human waste.
However local authorities, including the Bureau of Standards Jamaica, cleared the fertiliser which had been imported by the Government.
Yesterday, the Opposition spokesman refused to comment on Diamond R’s decision to setup
in Jamaica, while hinting that his criticisms were not directed at the company.
