"This is the place to be," said American tourist and avid track and field supporter, Todd Jones, after watching the 200-metre final at Usain Bolt's aunt's home in Sherwood Content, Trelawny.
"I've been running track for about 25 years, so I'm a big fan of track and I happen to be in Jamaica for my vacation with my family. I found out that the 200-metre final was today and what better place in the world to be than in Sherwood Content? How can you be anywhere else in the world on a day like today, you wanna be in Sherwood!" the excited American tourist told The Gleaner.
Captivated
So captivated this sports fan is with the world record holder in the 100m and 200m, that prior to the start of the 200m race in Berlin, he went for a jog and a drink of water at Bolt's former elementary school, Waldensia Primary.
Todd, who resides in Las Vegas, Nevada, was accompanied to Bolt's hometown by his sister Marni, Jones who resides in Pennsylvania, and friend Ward Miller of Washington. All three sought permission from Lillan Bolt (Usain's aunt) to watch the race from her home - something they said they would never forget.
"This is where he grew up, so I'm very happy to be here and it was nice that Miss Lilly had us in her home. It was wonderful to see the race from here and I can't believe how much he won by," Todd remarked.
Watched in silence
Silence descended on the home of Lillan Bolt, as she and residents from the local and international community watched her nephew prepare to break his own world record.
That silence was broken with the sound of the gun and would not die for hours.
"Dem affi guh tek machete and chop that world record because nobody can break that," said one resident much to the delight of the Sherwood Content citizens.
