  • Did we call out the police and the army for this?

    http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/news/...RUTALITY__.asp

Did the JCF execute a show of force by sending in hundred of police officer to canvas the area?

Perhaps if they show force and question every resident then it will send a strong message that certain crimes will not be tolerated.

    Brutality!
Gunmen invade children's church camp, abduct and rape 13-year-old girl
BY KIMMO MATTHEWS Observer staff reporter matthewsk@jamaicaobserver.com
    Friday, August 07, 2009
A 13-year-old girl, who was among a group of children on a church camping trip, was early yesterday morning abducted by gunmen, raped and left in bushes by her abductors.
The injured girl was taken to hospital, but it was not clear last night how serious her condition was.
Information about the horrific incident was, up to last night, still sketchy, but a source told the Observer that about 1:00 yesterday morning, what should have been a regular Independence Day church camping in trip in Canaan Heights, Clarendon turned ugly when the gunmen struck.
". About three of them broke into the church and attacked the group of children, robbing them of their cellular phones, money and other items," the source said.
The armed men, after robbing the group of approximately 20, abducted the little girl and took her into nearby bushes where they subjected her to a most brutal sexual assault.
The Clarendon police were last night tight-lipped about the incident, but one officer who requested anonymity confirmed that it took place and that a manhunt was underway for the criminals.
"Persons close to the matter are at this time still in shock and still trying to come to grips with what had taken place," another source said.
"What was supposed to be a day of celebration for a group of children turned ugly. Persons from the area are still trying to come to terms with what has happened," said the source.
The police reported recently that divisions in Clarendon, St James, St Catherine and the Corporate Area have been identified as the major hot spots where the bulk of shootings, robberies and rapes have occurred this year.
The same type of thinking that created a problem cannot be used to solve the problem.

I was reasoning with a couple home based Jakans the other day, and they claim the high crime rate is perpetuated by the foreign media. Dem is like an alcoholic who nuh know dem have a drinking problem. Mi wonder if the gang is one of dem that is aligned to a political party, and as such is untouchable.

I thought you were upset about this report on gangs in Jamaica. Was there a misunderstanding on your part?

Not even going to watch it, Hortical. Tired of them now. And worse when yuh don't even have a timeline as to when all that happened. I don't need to see these farin documentaries. I live on Ground Zero.

Misunderstanding about what? Not sure what yuh referring to but nothing has changed from my perspective - JFJ is the best thing to ever happen to Jamaica since 17 August 1887; the police are generally out of control, murderous and corrupt; the Minister apparently does not mind this about his police; the Minister is clueless as to what to do about the crime; gangs thrive due to their political backing; etc., etc.

Based on what I am hearing from people in the JDF, it looks like it is time to dismantle the police. There is absolutely no confidence in the police, and the police have no respect for the public that they claim to serve and protect.
