  • Reggae Boyz Supporterz Declaration

    Massive,

Our beloved nation is in crisis. We all know this.

Instead of bellyaching and pontificating about it 24/7 ...can we do something meaningful as a group?

We have all the tools at hand to easily collaborate transnationally.

    Maybe:

    1. Agreeing on some ideas on a way forward for Jamaica... ie a Reggae Boyz Declaration... to be distributed to the powers that be?

    2. More practically... adopting a micro project to help some yutes... I believe Islandman has some experience doing this in other parts. Maybe someone among us has a useful project deserving support.

    Any ideas?

Without vision the people shall continue to perish.... but it does take cash to care.

    Bless

Don1...this is a good idea and I endorse it however, in order to be productive we would need to meet in order to brainstorm. posting messages and ideas has some relevance but for it to be meaningful....a face to face tete a tete is optimal....nay....mecessary!

      Don1, I'm just seeing this.

I guess you weren't around when a small group of us got tired of the Internet chatter and decided to actually organise to see how we can help the Reggae Boyz in real, practical terms. That's when we came up with the Reggae Boyz Supporterz Club, Inc, a legal, not-for-profit organisation with functioning chapters in the USA and in Jamaica. (God bless Courtney!)

This year, December to be exact, we should be celebrating our tenth year in existence, but we won't. For the most part, the RBSC has been a 5 man operation, despite constant calls for us to contribute in whatever way. Money is one thing, but we were never thinking of begging Forumites every time we wanted to do something. The support has been very dismal to the point where perhaps we need to consider changing the name of this very forum.

Fact is, we have a lot of talkers and only a handful of doers, all of whom were contributing while trying to maintain our real jobs and families. I am proud of the little we accomplished, because it was much better than nothing but 5 people cannot continue to give their all when we have so many Forumites who call themselves supporters.

I could go on for days about this. If you would tke control of the reins and see what can happen, you are more than welcome. The five of us will be by your side every step of the way as you try to get more of us to chip in. I know you are probably thinking on a wider level than just football, but certainly, nothing is wrong in attacking that crisis from a football point of view. Afterall, that is what brought us together.

Best of luck, Don1! (It sounds defeatist, but it isn't. I'll never stop supporting Jamaica and its football team, in particular.)

I feel your pain. Leadership is a lonely road. I'm very familiar with the task of creating and organizing people areound some common goal, It's not easy.
But if we don't do it.. who will?

If there is a micro project RBZSC can endorse and provide accountability for... sometimes it's just a matter of packaging it and knocking on the right doors to coordinate support.

I agree that running after people to trump up funds is a pain..... having myself founded & run a membership organization for 10 years. So now my approach is more on a corporate level to get support for projects... that's where proper packaging of the project, as you know, will be important.

They're many ways to skin a cat... we just have to find a way that works for us.

        Respek.

Agree face to face is optimal..with how RBZSC spread out... that's not easy.

We could start with a phone conference.. I use this service www.freeconference.com for conference calls routinely.

Count me in, but trust me, those of us who have toiled with the RBSC for the last ten years, are a bit weary right now.

Maybe I was the problem, me with my antagonistic, anti-UB40, YNWA, JFJ, pro-Boxhill, racist attitude. (Did I miss one of my many negatives?) So, I'm willing to have someone else take charge.

It's a global village. Yes, it would nice if we could all be in Kingston, or New York, but it can work otherwise.

Thanks for that conferencing website. I use Skype. How do they compare?

That is strictly a conferencing platform..peeple kall in wid a code to enter the conference, get emailed invitations, reminders etc.
It's not a long distance calling service like Skype... but you can reach the conference using Skype, phone cards or any carrier.... even CWJ.

Does Skye have a conferencing platform? If they did that would be wikkid...no tolls!

no video, while conferencing, but that is not a bad thing, necessarily. one is able to speak without preparing one's front page appearance!

Don1, just got some time to logon and saw this.

I like the idea of a micro-finance type project. My experience with it so far is mostly as a financial contributor and a firm believer in the concept, but I am sure I can think of some ideas. I will think about it some more and respond later.

I can say I will contribute in what ways I can. I can say however that the last few years have been very weird and challenging as trying to hold done a fulltime job, fininshing my thesis, two kids under two wiped me out of anything but talking as my wife works very long hours.

I have a few suggestions and I really intend to do some writing and contribution. I have some ideas and will listen to others.

Mosiah only thing I can tell you is it is better to have 5 willing than 50 unwilling, and some people talk and it is more like ambition than reality because a nuff people have it tuff a foriegn and fraid ti say so.

Well we have used Skype with 5 persons on...and there was nothing saying we could not keep adding others.
