The government has announced yet another measure to protect its trade interests in the agriculture
sector.
During his contribution to the Sectoral Debate today, Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister Dr. Ken Baugh announced the government would be instituting a new measure known as the Special Safeguards Mechanism.
According to Dr. Baugh, developed countries engage in trade practices which are at a disadvantage to developing counties such as Jamaica.
It is for this reason he says Jamaica will move to align its trade policies to reflect this reality, while ensuring that they meet the international practices.
He says the government will be intensifying its efforts with international organisations such as the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the United Nations to secure more equality in accessing international markets.
