  • Phillips says Jamaica’s reputation under threat

Dr Peter Phillips says Jamaica’s reputation is under threat because of the frequency of claims of Government corruption.
Referring to the latest bribery allegations against former state minister for transport Joseph Hibbert, Dr Phillips called for a full investigation and a public report.

He says to make matter worse, Jamaica continues to feature negatively on the annual reports of Transparency International.
Dr Phillips says both his former PNP administration and the governing Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) are to be blamed.

Two days ago, Joseph Hibbert resigned as the state minister for transport.
The resignation came days after UK bridge building firm Mabey and Johnson pleaded guilty to bribing Jamaican officials to win local contracts.
Mr Hibbert who has maintained his innocence says his resignation will allow him more time to clear his name and his integrity.
