Bounty charged for beating up cop

    Thursday, 09 July 2009

Dancehall entertainer Rodney Pryce, more popularly known as 'Bounty Killer' is behind bars after being charged with assaulting and pulling a gun on a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

The DJ was charged Thursday morning after he surrendered to detectives at the Half-Way-Tree Police Station.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had ruled that charges be laid against the artiste and another policeman, Calis Bowen, who was dismissed from the Force last year.
Bounty Killer who has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm, assault and unlawful wounding is booked to appear before the Gun Court on Friday.
It is reported that on September 27, 2007, the complainant, a police Constable, was driving his private motor vehicle along St. Lucia Avenue in New Kingston when he came upon a group of men, who had blocked the road with their vehicles.

The policeman reportedly tooted his horn to signal the men to move, however one of them, nicknamed "Ice" allegedly threw alcohol in his face.
The cop then jumped from his vehicle to confront 'Ice' and the group of men attacked him.

It is alleged that during the confrontation Bounty Killer pulled a firearm.
Mr. Bowen who was also in the DJ's entourage reportedly joined in the attack on the Constable, slapping him in the face and chest.
Investigators say the Constable tried to identify himself by producing his ID but it was grabbed from him and thrown back into his face.
A report was filed with the police and sent to the DPP, who ruled that the DJ be charged.
Mr. Bowen was reportedly dismissed from the Force in January 2008.
