    Things fall apart - Portia factor fades, Young Turks want out
    Published: Sunday | June 28, 2009

    Simpson Miller
    At least two young party members who stood on the platform with Simpson Miller have tiptoed out of her camp.

    PEOPLE'S NATIONAL Party (PNP) insiders have said the impending decision not to contest any more by-elections is geared towards saving the political career of party president Portia Simpson Miller.

    Several attempts to reach party president, Simpson Miller, have been unsuccessful, via telephone calls and through Raymond Pryce, head of the party's youth arm, the Patriots.

            The copy editor who wrote that headline is showing off his/her knowledge of West African literature in a creative way (lol). That “Things Fall Apart” is the title of one of the top selling West African novels of all time, a great literary work by Nigerian writer Chinua Achebe. It certainly is an appropriate title for this particular news story.

              Yuh nuh listen to Mutty Perkins ?

              "TURNING and turning in the widening gyre
              The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
              Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
              Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
              The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
              The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
              The best lack all conviction, while the worst
              Are full of passionate intensity."

              Mutty could not get into UWI (per Don1) but him know a couple poems and works of Literature and is quite adept at applying to contemporary issues..

                That title by Chinua Achebe was in turn taken from the poem, “The Second Coming” by the great poet W.B.Yeats. This classic poem contains the lines:
                “Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
                Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
                The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
                The ceremony of innocence is drowned….”

                      Great literary post, Maudib (good memory too)! That is the poem (lol) by W.B.Yeats! You’ve quoted the first two stanzas (stanza one has two lines, while stanza two has six).

                      I like your post, boss!

                        I haven’t listened to Wilmot Perkins in many, many years, but I remember him as a very knowledgeable person who was obviously exposed to a wide range of disciplines, including history, classical literature, Latin, etc.

                        I used to be impressed by him in this regard.

                              Suh yuh tink Portia fool-fool and Peter bright?
                              I wonder what innate determinant factor each has that the other lacks?

                              Peter born into Aubrey Philips' household and Portia to a 'nobody'?
                              ...or was Peter born with no 'physical or mental defects'...and Portia did get lick innah har ead?

                              One with capacity to learn and grow and another without that capacity?

                              ...I wonder?

                              I have biases - The men have been our leaders from God knows when...and we are where we are!

                              ...and I am silly enough to believe that there is none with innate ability to 'think, learn and grow' greater than another. Sure there are 'many ways to get to the other side of the table'...and williness to follow is often determined by 'old inbred habits'...so it just maybe that self-hate of the 'lowly born'...'does not speak like "Us"...cannot articulate like "Us"...even as, just like "Us" can do and often do surpass what we do...must be condemned to "knowing dem place"!

                              Right? ...just wondering?

                              My bias?
                              Sure! I would like to see Portia remain head and have the full support of the others! ...hopefully take us to a Jamaica that sure as hell is not as it is!

                              ...but then that maybe just a dream?
                              "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
