One of Jamaica’s leading shipping companies is expressing optimism about the impending Jamaica Import/Export Inspection Centre.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding will tomorrow officially open the centre located at the Kingston Container terminal at Port Bustamante.
The general manager of CMACGM Jamaica Limited Shipping Company, Leo Nesbeth said the facility would cut the period it now takes to clear goods.
She said the one-stop facility would also help to reduce the level of bureaucracy involved in importing and exporting items.
The centre will serve as a central location to co-ordinate inspections of imported and exported goods and ensure compliance with all standards in trade.
It will also house all the regulatory agencies responsible for animal, plant and human health and safety.
The Government is establishing the centre as part of its Public Sector Modernization programme.
The programme is aimed at delivering Government service more efficiently.
