  • Jamaica ‘s Ombudsman to reveal findings on state funds claim

The Political Ombudsman, Bishop Herro Blair is today expected to reveal his finding into a probe following complaints about the JLP’s activities in North East St. Catherine.

A by-election is to be held in the constituency tomorrow between the JLP incumbent Gregory Mair and PNP newcomer, Granville Valentine.

On Friday, the PNP wrote to the Ombudsman asking him to look into what it claims is the JLP’s use of state funds for political activities.

Last night, Bishop Blair said he will be evaluating the PNP’s suggestions and presenting his findings when he returns to office today.

According to the PNP, members of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) and the National Works Agency (NWA) work crews are wearing JLP paraphernalia.

The PNP has also criticised the agriculture minister Dr Christopher Tufton for issuing water tanks to farmers in the constituency under the government’s Black Tank Programme in the height of the campaigning.

Meanwhile, The PNP’s campaign manager for North East St Catherine, Angella Brown Burke says the party will be pressing for a review of campaign activities for future elections.

The North East St Catherine by-election was called after the court ruled that Mr Mair was the holder of Venezuelan nationality at the time of his nomination in 2007.
