Police to monitor Spanish Town after gang leader’s release

The police have stepped up their surveillance in trouble spots in Spanish Town, St. Catherine following Tuesday's release of the Leader of the Klansman Gang Tesha Miller.
Mr. Miller walked free from the Home Circuit Court after government prosecutors withdrew criminal charges against him.
Head of the Area Five Police Assistant Commissioner Leon Rose told our news centre on Tuesday night that steps are to be taken to keep areas frequented by members of the Klansman safe and secure.
ACP Rose vowed that criminal elements would not be allowed to disrupt law and order or create mayhem in the busy commercial district.
He also sought to reassure law abiding citizens not to be fearful and to go about their regular business.
The Spanish Town-based Klansman Gang has over the years been linked to several criminal acts including murder and extortion.
Mr. Miller, who became the leader of the gang following the 2006 police killing of Donovan "Bulbie" Bennett, was accused of the April 7, 2004 murder of Robert Haughton in the St. John's Road area of St. Catherine.
Government prosecutors who have been battling to keep the case afloat after the sole eyewitness was gunned down last year, finally conceded Tuesday morning.
The prosecutors threw in the towel after the testimony of the chief investigator was not strong enough to move the case forward.
