Secrets set for opening 700 rooms by '09 winter season

Secrets Resorts & Spas will open its US$180- million dual properties with 700 combined rooms in Montego Bay for peak-season arguing that its brand name will drive visitors during the downturn.
"Secrets St James Montego Bay and Secrets Wild Orchid Montego Bay will both open in December 2009," stated Maite Velez-Couto head of public relations in an email response to Observer queries. The chain which is part of the AMResorts Group, "expects to employ 1,200 at the resorts at full occupancy". Each resort has 350 rooms.
"Each resort has its own distinctive personality brought about by décor, ambiance and more, but they both share certain common areas like restaurants, Spa facility, pools and more," she explained.
Secrets St. James Montego Bay reflects colonial architecture and features "lavish guest rooms including oversized four-poster beds and Jacuzzi's for two". The property also has 14 gourmet restaurants, a soothing spa, 24-hour concierge service. Whilst Secrets Wild Orchid Montego Bay reflects nature and art and features "numerous gourmet à la carte restaurants, bars and lounges, a lavish spa with oceanfront massage cabanas, concierge service, state-of-the-art open-air theatre, a full array of activities and championship golf courses nearby".
AMResorts founded in 2001 provides sales, marketing and brand management services to three exclusive resort brands in Mexico, Dominican Republic and Jamaica. These resort brands include Zoëtry Wellness & Spa Resorts, Secrets Resorts & Spas and Dreams Resorts & Spas.

Jamaica was named among the top tourism spots benefiting from the fallout from tourism in Mexico due to the outbreak of the deadly H1N1 flu, formerly known as the swine flu. The Associated Press reported last week that instead of Cozumel in Mexico, cruise ship companies are opting for Ocho Rios or Montego Bay in Jamaica, Nassau or Freeport in the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands' St Thomas, St Maarten or Key West, Florida, or points across the Caymans and Turks and Caicos.
