  • PAJ raps Nationwide News

    Wednesday, May 20, 2009
THE executive of the Press Association of Jamaica yesterday expressed "grave concerns" about the reporting by Nationwide News Network on Friday, May 15 of the landing of a private aircraft transporting former Prime Minister P J Patterson and executives of telecoms provider, Digicel.
The aircraft landed at Norman Manley International Airport on the previous night.
In a letter yesterday to Nationwide News Network head, Cliff Hughes, the PAJ said it was "alarmed and dismayed that the tenets of journalism were not followed".
Said the PAJ: "The entire embarrassing episode has caused injury to the integrity of the profession of journalism and has cast practitioners in a negative light in the public's view."
The PAJ, at the same time, urged Hughes to "implement and adhere to strict internal measures to prevent a recurrence of these professional breaches".
The PAJ wrote to Hughes after reviewing audio recordings of the reportage on the alleged incident.

Heard a discussion on NNN with Fae Ellington and Byron Buckley. Buckley admitted that NNN wasn't the only station and should have issued a general release.

Fae Ellington was very fiery claiming "the tenets of journalism wasn't followed". Well, a clip was played with an interview with the Acting PM at the time, Monday at 5:00 pm Alston Stewart was on Nationwide at 5, but she keep insisting ""the tenets of journalism wasn't followed".

I think I can understand why she was so defensive.

Cliff Hughes is an Emmy Award winner? Didn't know that! Now I see why Power106 and RJR simply follow the leader.
