NWU wasn’t informed about IDT intervening in cement worker issue – Valentine
Vice President of the National Workers Union Granville Valentine says he is puzzled by the ruling of the Industrial Disputes Tribunal (IDT) that workers at Carib Cement Company Limited must go back to work Monday.
On Sunday, the IDT issued a release saying shift and non shift staff must report for work starting at 6am Monday.
But Mr. Valentine who spoke with RJR News said he was unaware of the ruling or that the matter had been referred to the IDT.
He said he had not received any correspondence on the matter from either the Ministry of Labour or the IDT.
"We were not informed of the matter going to the IDT (and) we cannot speak to something that we're not fully aware of. If the IDT issued a back to work order, we have to see the document itself for us to peruse it properly and make intelligent comments".
