    Air Jamaica performance up

    Posted: 2009-05-07 17:57:13

The national airline Air Jamaica, is reporting that it made significant achievements in its performance over the last few months and in particular, April this year.

The Air Jamaica management said it completed 100 percent of scheduled flights with no cancellations and had 82 percent of all available seats sold resulting in a record load factor.

Additionally, it said its on-time performance was 50 percent better than in April 2008.

The government has said the divestment of the airline will be completed at the end of June, after it missed the March 31 deadline.

The Minister with Responsibility for Air Jamaica, Senator Don Wehby, had earlier said that the airline privatisation committee had received an indicative offer.

At least three investors had expressed an interest in acquiring the cash strapped airline.

The successful investor is expected to ensure continuation of the airline system as part of the support for the country’s tourism infrastructure, and be willing to maintain its Jamaican brand.

The privatisation effort is expected to ease the burden on the national budget, of the over US$150 million per annum in losses by the airline.
