Many parrots come on the forum railing about the US confronting and fighting dictatorial regimes around the world... as if this is some noble and moral cause.... and an issue of human rights and wrongs. Cuba is the latest country of interest here it seems.
Some are very critical that I don't see it necessary to join their parroting of the "brutal Cuban dictatorship"... which line they get from the corporate US media.
This is a line parrots learn from excessive mainstream US media consumption, the effects of which are very powerful and to most.... irresistable.
US media very effectively programs/brainwashes its consumers to form these shallow views on policy... which is why one should have a healthy skepticism of the views of "the majority of Americans" at any given point in time.
The fact that most people share these unsophisticated views of the foundations and intent of US policy makes the parrots very comfortable and secure... in their lack of understanding of the nature of political power.
Parrots of a feather... flock together... it's a law of nature.
Like all great states, the US promotes policy abroad that the existing administration feels will advance the power of the United States... that is the prime directive... all else (moral considerations etc) is entirely secondary.... and often immaterial.
Of course these policies change with the times and with the priorities of different US administrations... but power projection or accumulation is always the ultimate objective.
This construct makes for some strange circumstances and uncomfortable bedfellows in global politics... a supreme irony generally missed by the gullible parrots.... because it is not ventilated in the corporate media they consume and believe in so dearly.
Witness just 2 of these recent ironies:
1979 - 1989 US embraces Bin Laden & the brutal Taliban extremists... gives them sophisticated arms, training and unaccounted for billions in taxpayer money through the CIA... result: a very effective military-political force is formed and the USSR is driven out of Afghanistan... the brutal and totalitarian Taliban elements are celebrated in Washington as heroes but.... Afghanistan is then left to rot.
Result:
2001 - Bin Laden & the Taliban use that US military training and political organization to mutilate the US... it took less than 10 years to come full circle.... supremely ironic.
1980 - 1988: the brutal and sadistic mass murderer Saddam Hussein invades Iran with the tacit agreement of the US. Rumsfeld even visits the sadist in his chambers and shakes his hand (I've seen the pics).
The US openly supports the genocidal Saddam as he poison gases the Kurds and the Iranians... and brutalizes his people.. killing millions...piling the bodies in mass graves.
The US gives Saddam trade, money, weapons and military intelligence..... at that time that administration desperately wants to limit Iran... and any brutal dictator will do.
The war ends in a draw... both armies return to their original borders.... but Iran is weakened and subject to increased sanctions.
When it was convenient Saddam was a nice friendly ally... just a few years later he was a brutal totalitarian and... whipped up by corrupt officials and the corrupt corporate media... witless Americans launch 2 devastating wars of choice against the mass murderer... and still can't extricate themselves.... but exult that the newly discovered dictator is toppled and then killed.
The fact that Saddam was a key US ally at the zenith of his brutality and genocide... is unreported in the corporate media... and the gullible parrots are ignorant... they just know that.. WE KICKED BUTT!!
On another note Joseph Stiglitz has estimated that the ultimate cost of the current Iraq war will be well north of $2Trillion... helping mightily to bankrupt the country.
Now to the current talk of certain regimes... that they must do this or that... or else Uncle Sam will be vexed... get real.
When you naive global political analysts twitter about totalitarian dictators brutalizing their people etc and the moral imperatives of US policy .... please decide to take the correct pill and try to escape the matrix.... you will see reality more clearly then.
It's about power... not much else. Even Obama still has to operate in that milieu.
