  • PNP to host town hall meetings on Gov’t’s tax package

The Opposition People's National Party (PNP) will be hitting the road after the budget debate to galvanize public dialogue in the wake of the Government's $18 billion tax package.

PNP Leader Portia Simpson Miller who was speaking at a post budget press conference at the party's headquarters Friday morning, said the PNP's Policy Commission will be embarking on the islandwide town hall meetings.
According to her, the Government has not been effective in communicating the real impact of the 2009/2010 budget and as a result, the Opposition will be engaging the public on the long term implications.

"We're going to be speaking with the people so that we will be able to take their concerns to the Government. We have to bear in mind that this is a heavy tax package ... not even the dead has escaped the wrath of taxation by this Government," said Mrs. Simpson Miller.
