Jawge, there are two interpretations of the words that you highlight; the way you have and the "certain societies" one.

If I am referring to let's say a group of fifty students from say Jamaica College among which are three extremely bright individuals... I could in reference to them say: " the extremely bright students of Jamaica College display etc etc" without meaning the entire group.

I hear what you say... so Historian could have just left out a reference to a geographic area to make his point, which is what we should also focus on; how women are treated (and getting women back on the site). The female perspective enriches our exchanges.
