I expect the book will see an upsurge in sales: even I am curious to read it now. It seems like a Latin American version of "How Europe Underdeveloped Africa" by Walter Rodney. The title of the book in question is "Open Veins of Latin America: Five centuries of Pillage of a Continent" by a Uruguayan journalist, Eduardo Galeano.

"The 1971 book documents how American and European commercial interests have dominated and afflicted LAtin America since the Spanish conquest" - Trinidad Express Sunday April 19.

I well recall Rodney's How Europe Underdeveloped Africa and Eric William's Capitalism and Slavery.

Those were required reading in certain circles at JC in my day.
