The health ministry is to spend $300 million to improve the level of care offered at health centres across the island.
The ministry says the move will help to reduce the pressure on public hospitals.
The sums were disbursed from the National Health Fund (NHF).
The ministry says it will also be allocating more resources to health centres in an effort to streamline their operations.
The improvement efforts form part of what it says are its plans to overhaul primary health care.
The announcement follows the April 1 anniversary of the government’s removal of user fees at public health facilities.
