Finance Minister Audley Shaw has warned of the imminent arrest of public sector employees in the wake of a major clampdown on corruption in departments and divisions which fall under his Ministry.
His warning comes in the wake of allegations of internal corruption which have resulted in the State being deprived of much needed revenue.
Mr. Shaw says tough action will be taken including criminal proceedings as his Ministry will be adopting a zero tolerance approach to all forms of illegal activities.
While not indicating which areas are being affected, Mr. Shaw warned that persons involved will soon find themselves behind bars.
"We've started arresting and charging people already and more are coming. I will not rest until every one of my departments across this country are squeaky clean.
"We are not going to tolerate corruption in the administration of taxation in Jamaica," said Mr. Shaw while speaking at the opening of the customer care facility at the May Pen Revenue Centre in Clarendon on Thursday.
What are you solutions Shaw asks Ferguson on free health care regime
And the Finance Minister has fired back at the Opposition for its scathing assessment of the first year of the abolition of hospital user fees.
Mr. Shaw has pointed to Spokesman on Health, Dr. Fenton Ferguson, who he said has constantly criticised the free health care regime without offering any viable solutions.
"I have not heard the Opposition come back with a credible alternative plan. An alternative plan to address overcrowding could be to find more resources both in terms of additional spaces and personnel if necessary, but all of this cost more money," said Mr. Shaw.
