CABINET this week approved a contract worth US$2,253,750 to Mico University College by the Ministry of Mining and Telecommunications to provide information communication technology (ICT) training and development services under the e-Learning project.

4,000 teachers are to be provided with training for the implementation of the e-Learning syllabus.

A US$4,178,668 contract was awarded to LIME and one for US$2,920,400 to Flow, for the installation of an islandwide broadband network, intended to widen Internet access in Jamaica, including for residents, the public sector and schools.
"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)

Glad to see this. I wonder what level of education they will focus on?

I was thinking about this the other day, the country schools especially can benefit from this.

This project started a few years ago and they seem to be focusing on the secondary level... equipping computer labs and WANS etc.

Funded through the cess charged carriers to terminate long distance calls.

You could look at it that way... or you could say it is now a JLP project since they are in power and operate it.

          Either way it's nothing new.
