A few Jamaican Mr. Allan Thompson was mayor of Spring Valley. The place was run down and not looking good. There was a bus station that the MTA gave back to the village for 1 cent because of the problems they were having as passangers were no longer going there. Mr. Thompson cleaned it up and people started going to the bus station.
Now the MTA called Mr.Thompson and said they wanted to buy the Bus Station back for 250,000. He met with them and told them 1 million dollars and they said he must be joking. He decided to have them call him when they are serious. When he left the meeting and was going to his office the phone ran and said they would accept the 1 million offer and his reply was in addition to that you have to put up the real good street lights in that area. Now a lesser politican would have accepted a lesser offer considering the fact that they got it for $1.
Short about Thompson, when he left Spring Valley the Town had a tripple A rating up from a D rating 8 years earlier. Some people complained that they didn't see enough of him but he answer was he spent alot of time driving to Albany and Washington to see all the lines and grants that are available to him. While he was the mayor you never saw him without a plan for the village and he was willing to share it with everybody. His common words were "buy Spring Valley". Some didn't support the man as they say he a womanizer but the man was single. Last time I visited Spring Valley it has ran down somewhat.
I talk about this all politicians are not equal and no matter what system is in place some will always underperform. The words presented were told to me by Mr. Thompson and I am sure I am not misrepresnting him.
